Push Cart New York Rallys Against Ratner's Skyscraper City

PCNY gets political!

Join us in protest of Ratner's proposed Arena Development.
Sunday, July 16th, 2 pm.
Grand Army Plaza.

We aren't exactly sure what we will be doing at this rally, aside from sweating. But we will be there in our finest business attire, with our shiny carts a swingin'. Perhaps we will perform in the formal sense of the word, most definitely we will perform in the informal sense.

Other performers will include Dan Zanes, Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Gospel Choir, Beat Boxer Entertainment, and Brooklyn's own Acrobats Jugglers and Stilt walkers from Lava and Circus Amok.

Don't miss this chance to stand up for our community.

Mermaid Parade 2006; Success or Bust?

Push Cart New York performed for thousands at Coney Island's Mermaid Parade last Saturday. As usual we were greeted by a mix of enthusiasm and confusion.

We offer our sincerely apologies to any adoring fans who mistakenly thought that sitting near the judges stand would be a great place to watch the drill team. Who could ever have anticipated that MC Chris T would have so ruthlessly pushed us aside upon approaching the judges table. And so, the judges, and all those in close proximity, were robbed of their chance to see us perform.

If you are outraged by this travesty of justice, send your inflammatory emails here.

Enjoy these photos, found on Flickr.com I will post more as I acquire them.

Mermaid Parade! June 24th!

It's that time again folks. The Mermaid Parade is upon us, as is a chance to see Push Cart New York perform live! Please join us on Saturday, June 24th at 2 p.m. out at Coney Island. A good time is to be had by all!

Here are some pictures from last year. This top photograph is by Dan Frost.

Recruitment

At work today I approached someone about being on the team and she said she would have to mull it over. Push cart drill team is not for everyone. What makes a good PCNY team member? A sense of humor, stamina, the ability to show up for practice (in the park, Saturdays, 4 pm, baby), and an immunity to the varied reactions of confused strangers. We have a strong team this year, currently four people, but I dream of us being able to dazzle the crowds with 10, 12, or even 14 push carts twirling through the air. Imagine!

Skeletons

Someone I don't know took this picture and it landed in the hands of Yuri via the coop. This is Halloween 2005.

We can push a cart but can we blog a blog?

Well we've finally done it. PCNY has entered the world of the internet. Still daunted by the idea of creating an actual web site, we are starting small. Who knows what will end up here!

Photos? Video Clips? Details of our upcoming performances? Personal struggles of the daily life of drill team members? Yes! All that and more!

Keep checking back.
